We invite you to join with us for an evening planning session among friends and fellow citizens committed to awakening compassion in ourselves, our city, and the world. The Compassionate Action Network (CAN) is convening this session to co-create with the attendees a vision and plan for the Compassionate Action Month of April 2011. We welcome the gift of your presence and participation!
April will mark the beginning of the second year of the 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities. Last April 24th CAN produced a remarkable event, Compassionate Seattle: It’s Up to Us! At this event, that included Karen Armstrong and many other luminaries, the Mayor and the City Council issued a Joint Proclamation affirming the Charter for Compassion and committing Seattle to participate in the 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities.
Please come share and engage in a collaborative design process.

Comment by Elle McSharry on March 27, 2011 at 1:18pm Hello to everyone who attended the February 17th convening circle! The host committee has met and done some wonderful work to sift through the questions that arose from the 17th and to select a theme for April! As the discussion evolved, the vision changed from offering an Open Space in April to an event focused on mobilizing action using the idea of Collective Impact. We felt that participants would have a greater opportunity to experience connection to each other and a commitment to participation if April was led using a Fishbowl approach. So, although we did not select a "question" per se out of the questions put forth in February, we did use that material to guide our thinking in creating the theme of "Collective Impact". We hope you can join us!

Comment by Christine Joann Callo on February 19, 2011 at 11:18am 2011 Covening Circle Brainstormed questions for Open Space...
*What would it take to (how can we) unleash compassion in our neighborhoods and streets?
*What would compassionate action look like in Seattle?
What is currently being realized?
What could be?
*What are we capable of ?
*What does a compassionate city look like in the daily lives of people?
*What healing can we do now to love and empower the next generation, to feel comfortable, safe and protected to speak from the heart?
What can we do to facilitate compassionate anarchy?
How do we identify and bring together all the stakeholders to co-create solutions?
What is mine to do to create a compassionate city?
How do we create an environment in which compassionate giving and receiving matters?
How do we subvert an uncompassionate system in a compassionate way into a compassionate system?
How do we create and sustain a culture of compassion in Seattle?
How can the need for creative change gather the resources needed in order to achieve it?
How do we utilize the ‘oochy’ feeling to initiate change inside and out?
What is your good?
Is compassion ever undeserved?
What are we creating?
What does it mean and look like to actually be a compassionate city?
What are practices and actions that respond to and embody a call to compassion?
What does compassion mean to you?

Below are some world clouds that visually summarize the common words used in the brainstorming session for Open Space. The larger the word, the more it was used. We obviously liked "compassionate"!
