Artmonk Retreat
Guided by Joel & Michelle Levey

We at the Art Monastery Project have much to be grateful for.
This winter, we're thrilled to again be working with the Leveys to curate an exciting new piece of social sculpture that explores the living interplay among contemplation, creativity, and community. The team of artists doing this amazing work... could include YOU.
Part meditation retreat, part transformational creative ritual, the 2012 Artmonk Retreat is indeed a work of art. Through it, you will have the opportunity to lift your creative practice to new levels of clarity, depth, impact, and connection.
Our guides, Joel and Michelle Levey, will lead participating artists (and we agree with social sculpture pioneer Joseph Beuys: everyone is an artist) through an 8-night transformational ritual designed to help train our minds, access more profound levels of personal and creative insight, and share our discoveries with the world. This mostly silent meditation retreat offers the depth of stillness, deep listening, and creative sourcing that a Vipassana, mindfulness style retreat, offers yet integrates "creative sessions" into the format of the retreat to allow for creative expression and exploration each day.
Whether meditating silently, chanting joyously, or working on your own projects diligently, you will find that the Artmonk Retreat is a container with just the right mix of inward silence and outward movement, with beautiful moments of improvisation scattered throughout an intentionally structured score.

"At the deepest level, the creative process and the healing process
arise from a single source.
When you are an artist, you are a healer;
a wordless trust of the same mystery
is the foundation of your work and its integrity."
