Event Description

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama attended Seeds of Compassion in Seattle last year and recently attended the Vancouver Peace Summit in September 2009. These visits have inspired individuals and organizations to take action to awaken compassion in our children, ourselves, and our world.

You’re invited to attend a gathering at the Seattle Center on October 17, 2009 with the Compassionate Action Network (CAN), Seeds of Compassion, and Bellingham Compassion Movement.
The Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education from Vancouver B.C. will also participate in the event.

We will self-organize around the following question:

"HOW SHALL WE INSPIRE AND SUPPORT COMPASSIONATE ACTION IN OURSELVES, OUR COMMUNITIES, AND OUR WORLD?"

Rather than listening to speeches we will share our gifts in an Open Space format allowing you to convene and attend sessions in the spirit of community, discovery, exploration, and collaboration. Participants will:

1. Engage with other leaders that share common goals.
2. Discover and promote actions for awakening compassion in business, education, environment, economics, healthcare, peace, social justice, and/or other areas.
3. Share community engagement strategies.
4. Strengthen and develop a local, regional, and global network.
5. Enjoy music, art, dance, stories, and food.

WHEN: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17th from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

WHERE: Fisher Pavilion at the Seattle Center, 305 Harrison Street in Seattle

COST: $10.00 is the suggested donation to help cover the event costs.

RSVP: CAN members may RSVP on this web page. If you're not a CAN member, please email your RSVP to Jon Ramer at jramer@interraproject.org or call 206-526-2323.

At the end of the day, our goal is to emerge refreshed, strengthened, and clearer about our own projects and how we can work together.

Your voice is essential to shape the future of compassionate action in our region. We’ll look forward to seeing you at 8:30AM on October 17th in Fisher Pavilion at the Seattle Center. If you have questions, please contact Jon Ramer at jramer@interraproject.org. Thanks!

Update: The RSVP list on this website consists of CAN members only. Jon Ramer has a separate list for non-members. We easily expect to have 200 people attend this event.

I just want to say a very deep thank you to all who worked with such heart to produce this incredible event! Sandra and I travelled from Boise knowing we HAD to be there with you, and it was more--and then some--than we could have dreamed. Way to Go, Pam, Jon, John, Anil, Anne, Susan B, Eddie, Candy, Mark, Tovah, Skye, Emily, and all of you amazing Seattle spirits (sorry if I've forgotten anyone's name...certainly the spirit of the event was about the collective, so in that light, thank you also to all who showed up)

I am looking forward to sharing more about collaborating in April in Seattle but even moreso how our common work can exponentially uplift the whole. Peace, Mali

Hi Fred -- You make a great point. Many people don't realize that they edit their MyPage to include the kind of information you are referring to and more. Please take a look at your profile on your MyPage you have a few sections that you can do this. We are also putting together a Community Directory to profile the associated organizations. Thanks for the input... keep it coming!

Well we did it! Thank you to everyone for contributing to making this gathering such a success. Here are a couple of related news items:

1. We will follow up from the gathering in the group 10/17 Connecting for Compassionate Action Please join to stay connected.

2. We had 45 open space session topics. Here is the 10.17 Open Space Session Topics.docfirst draft of the list of session topics. Take a look; it is a very diverse range of topics related to Compassionate Action. In the uploaded document, for most sessions there is the name of the person who hosted the session. Most of the names contain links to the persons MyPage here on CAN. This makes it easy for you to connect directly with a person who hosted a particular session at the gathering you are interested in.

3. We have some sessions missing host information. There are 8 sessions where the name of the host is not on the page and I am not sure who hosted the session. If know, please let me know. The sessions are:
* Attending the Parliament of World Religions
* Cutting carbon emissions 80% by 2020 in the Northwest
* Hearing our personal and collective stories of separation that have created immobilization
* Invitation to gather and learn how to connect with source and understand the available connection with universal consciousness
* Network for Cambodia
* Nonviolent communication transforming enemy images
* Radical civility: discourse with civic/academic leaders using the Little Red Book
* Sacred Activism book by Andrew Harvey

4. We have five session hosts who are not yet on CAN. If you know them, please encourage them to join. They are: Elaine, Ham Hayes, Jun, Larry Jacobson, and Roger.

I encourage you to join the 10/17 Connecting for Compassionate Action if you want to stay connected to what was created yesterday at the Seattle Center!

I wish you all a beautiful event. I just got to know about your existence - too late to join you today. But there will be other occasions, I am sure. Enjoy, have fun and share and spread compassion!

I would like to carpool - is anyone driving through Mt. Vernon (about 25 miles south of Bellingham)? I'm happy to help pay for gas. Let's make our carbon footprint really dainty! (<: I can be reached at 360-840-1723.
