Event Description

Welcome to the garden of Dervish Jam IV

From ancient times Sufis have used music and movement as ways to connect with the larger energies of the universe, rising out of our limited sense of self and reconnecting with the source of all being.

Come and immerse yourself in the local expression of this timeless desire as dervishes from different orders and like-minded friends gather to share songs, stories, poetry, prayers and dancing in a celebration of love and beauty. Remember, ecstasy isn't just your right, it's your duty.

The Seattle Mevlevi Ensemble:  Emine Savlov, Michael Douglas, Neyzens Jemaluddin Chris Henke and Timothy Kinsella

Are joined by Guest Artists, Musicians and Lovers:

Steve Flynn, Steve Metcalf, Fatima Fay Besharat, Che oke' ten Paul Wagner, Sura Charlier and Court, Rifaat Osborne

Dervish Jam FLYER

“We have fallen into the place
where everything is music.
The strumming and the flute notes
rise into the atmosphere,
and even if the whole world's harp
should burn up, there will still be
hidden instruments playing."

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing
there is a field. I'll meet you there."

“Today, like every other day,
we woke up empty and frightened.
Don't open the door to the study and begin reading.
Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways
to kneel and kiss the ground."

Rumi poetry above transliterated by Coleman Barks.
