SUMMARY:\"My Sisters Made of Light\" ~ Book Reading & Signing
DESCRIPTION:Join Interfaith Community Church in welcoming Jacqueline S
 t. Joan for a Book Reading, Discussion and Signing of \"My Sisters Ma
de of Light,\" a novel set inside the human rights movement in Pakista
n--published in October by Press 53, a small press in North Carolina.\
nA book club favorite, My Sisters Made of Light, a new novel by award
-winning writer Jacqueline St. Joan, connects the women of Pakistan to
the rest of the world through storytelling about two generations of a
family as they make their way through the political, social and relig
ious maze that is Pakistan. This novel pulls readers into the fascinat
ing, heartbreaking, and often terrifying world of honor crimes against
women.  In the process St. Joan introduces readers to Pakistan’s m
yriad cultures—from the mystical Sindhis in the South to the noble P
athans in the Northwest  Province, the Punjabis in the East and the B
alochis of the West.  \nDorothy Allison, author of Bastards Out of
Carolina, says  \"Jacqueline St. Joan writes with the passion of a li
fe-long feminist and the insight of wide experience. She brings to her
story what she brought to the law, a conviction that life is full of
both struggle and purpose and that grace comes to us when we have no r
eason to expect it.\" \nHalf of the proceeds will be donated for the
construction of a safe shelter in Pakistan for women and children esca
ping abuse.\nJacqueline St. Joan’s writings have appeared in a varie
ty of print and online media, including Ms., the Denver Quarterly,
Harvard Women’s Law Journal, Empire Magazine, theDenver Post, and
Thinking Women. She is the coeditor of Beyond Portia: Women, Law, and
Literature in the United States.  She has worked as a lawyer, judge,
and law professor, and holds a Master’s degree in creative writing.
She has won a number of writing awards, including the 2009 Silver S
olas Women’s Travel Writing Award,  Rocky Mountain MLA Essay Award
,   TCL Poetry Contest,  CLEA Creative Writing,  Denver Press Club,
Colorado Council on the Arts fellowship;  William Battrick Award; fe
llowship with  Rocky Mountain Women’s Institute.  My Sisters Made
of Light, her first novel, is a finalist for the 2011 Colorado Book Aw
 ard in Literary Fiction.  \nhttp://jacquelinestjoan.com\nhttp://mysis
