Turtle Women Rising 2011

Sacred Earth: Many Beats, One Heart
Dawn, October 7 - October 10, 2011
bəsčətxwəd, Place of the Black Bear, 5th and Water Street, Olympia, Washington.

Join us at the "bus-chut-hwud” (pronunciation in Lushootseed) meaning (place of the) black bear, a gathering site (Potlatch) for many Coastal Salish tribes: Chehalis, Nisqually, Duwamish and Squaxin. Let our prayers restore this area, once an estuary, as we vision the ancient canoes coming back to this ancient gathering place. Come share this vision of peace. As the Elders tell us, it is time for us all to come together and share.

We are Turtle Women Rising, Rising for Peace (www.turtlewomenrising.com). We gather again in 2011 and call upon our many communities to come together for 4 days and nights of ceremonial drumming and prayer.  All our welcome, all traditions, all nations.

Turtle Women Rising is an Indigenous women-led collective committed to praying and playing well together for the return of peace and harmony to our Madre Tierra/Earth Mother. Individually and collectively, we vision women stepping up as guardians of the elements, and of the Sacred Fire. We vision women returning to the drum, to listen to and strengthen the heartbeat of our Mother Earth with the vibrations of peace. We vision our elders, men and children supporting this important work with their presence, energy and prayers as we come together in community to build a resonating healing vibration into our lives. We invite all to actively engage in this peacemaking through the heartbeat of the ceremonial drum, for the drum is a way for Spirit to speak to our hearts.

Together, we call on people of all nations to reweave the web, bringing the remembrance of all our warriors and their ways. With the blessings of the International Council of the Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, we undertake an important part of the vision of one of our founders, Eli Painted Crow (Retired, US Army; www.turtlewomenrising.com/about-us.php): the honoring of our warriors and inviting them back into community. We embrace them and their families with open arms, providing a place to begin the healing process of calling their spirits back from the journey they have undertaken. We invite you to visit, participate, and or donate towards this Stand For Peace. You are invited to take action with us during our gatherings, and always, from your homes, amongst your families and your communities, to consciously connect the web of all life.

"You cannot demand peace, you can only become it." ** "You cannot fight for peace, you can only live it."

Please bring your drums, shakers, or other percussion instruments. You may wish to bring ceremonial offerings of Sage, Cedar, Tobacco, or Cornmeal or others from your tradition. Feel free to bring food/drink to share, if you can. Bring your prayers, a song to share. Bring your beautiful open heart.

We humbly ask all to consider making a tax deductible DONATION if you can at this time.We appreciate your financial support for our founder Eli Painted Crow and Turtle Women Rising in their upcoming endeavors. All proceeds will go toward our drum/prayer vigil in Olympia, Washington as well as our October 2012 vigil in Washington D.C.
