On November 2, 2009 5 peaceful protestors, clergy and social workers, demonstrated at Bangor Nuclear Base in order to increase awareness of the dangers of nuclear weapons and to make known their presence. Bangor base in Bremerton, WA is home of the largest known stockpile of Nuclear Weapons in the United States including 8 Trident Subs equipped with 24 missiles that are 6-30 times more powerful than the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima. These protesters were convicted and will be sentenced for up to 10 years on March 28th in Tacoma, WA.
The Festival of Hope at St. Leo's Church is one of several events scheduled for the week prior to the sentencing. Please join us for a Potluck Dinner, Music by St. Leo's Choir, James Morgan, Mooncoyne, Native American Dancers, and Speakers including Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton- longtime peace activist and founding member of Pax Christi. Together let us increase our awareness of these dangerous weapons and envision a life-giving world without them.
