Group Description

For the people following up and staying connected after the 10/17 Connecting for Compassionate Action gathering at Seattle Center. Link to the event page.

If you want to start a discussion there is a Discussion Forum. For example there is a discussion titled: Alphabetical Summary of All Open Space Topics. For each session there is a link to the convener, except for a few which we are hoping will still sign up. Perhaps you want to continue a session that was started in open space that day. Go ahead.

Here are some photos from the gathering:

Jon Ramer is hosting this group. If you have questions please send me a message. Anything that gets added to the "comment wall" sends a notice out to everybody. If you want to share with everyone, please do. You can also send a message to everyone and anyone in the group.

The latest comments are on the top AND I am also "pruning" comments that I think are outdated or "noise" to someone scrolling through. If you think a removed comment needs to be added please do so!

Please upload and download your open space session reports to this file sharing box: You can send messages directly to any member of this group or the CAN site. Use the "comment wall" to inform all the members of the group.

"Since this event is a Pre-Parliament of World Religions Event we want to make sure we are coordinating the related participation."

Could someone please explain what this means? (Jon, feel free to prune this comment after I get an answer. Thanks)

Greetings!
Thanks to everyone for what you are doing. I am inspired by your generosity. Please keep it up!

10/17 + 10/18 Requests and Offers
We have open a discussion identifying what’s missing and giving everyone a chance to offer what they can. Thank you to Reverend Cheen, Saralee Kane, Eddie Griffith, Susan Burns, Ann, Tova and everyone else for offering your time/talent/treasure! I just updated the discussion. If you look at the discussion you’ll see their name now integrated into the Open Request list. Please take a look and see what you can add if anything?

Project Plan
We are keeping a project plan and I've updated the latest Excel formatted version of it. It is also uploaded here 10-17 Event Plan_10-05.xls

Mainstream Media
We have a press release that we want to get out. It is uploaded here CAN 10-17 PRESS RELEASE 10-03-09_PKM.pdf

Social Media
Jay Standish is helping us spread the word on WiserEarth. Jeris has offered to help us update our presence on Facebook and Twitter

I've been pruning the comment wall. Please don't be offended if I removed one of your comments. I'm integrating what gets said on the comment wall into other discussions so we can keep the wall fresh and not lost any valuable input.

There are a few other open issues that have been mentioned in the group but not yet resolved.

Since this even is a Pre-Parliament of World Religions Event we want to make sure we are coordinating the related participation. I propose that we add a discussion dedicated to the Parliament of World Religion

Social Network Hospitality Team - We are developing core of participants who are welcoming and encouraging members to get involved with CAN. We're planning education, training and support as well as a retreat in Hawaii. Please let me know if you're interested in learning more about this role.

Susan Burns mentioned that Marc Barash author of a great book about compassion “Field Notes from a Compassionate Life” has offered to have a box of books for sale at the gathering.

Mark also proposes another interesting project that I think he ought to start a new discussion about.

What else? Please post the event page for the gathering to Facebook and Twitter. I want to have at least 200 people there. We need to be inviting!

Hi, All, I have had really too much going on lately.... Now I am catching up with the conversation here. I apologize for not being on calls.Jon, I sent a notice out with the first invitation and will again as I come up for air and I have been sharing.

As far as materials, I can offer registration materials. I have a cash box, receipt books, pens, etc. I can also be a greeter or work with any other role and I will happily show up on Friday PM to set up.

For Anne, since it is harvest time. it might be nice have some gourds and leafs along with pots of flowers. What do you think?

I do echo the concerns that the reflection not be expensed for the organizing. I really think the reflection should begin at the end of the 17th and then begin again with the convening group reflecting on that reflection on the 18th. Focused with thoughtful and clear questions, Next Steps should emerge naturally. I would not like to see the meeting too rushed as a result of the emphasis put all on the planning. The details might be more helpful on the website for workgroups later.

Marc Barasch, who is on this site, and whom I have sponsored in Seattle before, and who stayed with Jon, has asked for support in featuring his updated book "Field Notes on The Compassionate Life". I would like to know if there will be a book table as he is ready to send a box of books. Marc also leads Green World Campaign and suggested the following project. Is there a way to suggest this project to an enthusiast without it being an open space topic? I think it is a project worthy of consideration.
“Compassionate Action: Plant trees in Seattle, and for every one planted, plant five through Green World Campaign in the developing world, restoring the ecology and economy of some of the world's poorest places, making the global village and "integral practices" something more than spiritual rhetoric. "Green compassion," and an earth-healing strategy, transforming what is dying and barren back to biodiversity and fertility, that I call "regenerative ecology," or "environmentalism as if people mattered."

Greetings! Thanks to Anne for her suggestion and input on organizing how we each participate with the 10/17 gathering. We have a discussion above that is a space to identify what we need (requests) and contributions (offers) that we can provide. Please take a look.

We also have a press release for the 10/17 gathering thanks to Pam. It is in the box above as well as uploaded here CAN 10-17 PRESS RELEASE 10-03-09_PKM.pdf We want to get the press release out to contacts we have in the media. Do you have any contacts to send this to? If you do, please send it out!

Greetings! We had a great feedback call. There is ONE action that ask that you do today. It will take one minute and it can make a difference. It is very easy to post the event on your Facebook page. This spreads the word and gives people another way to discover CAN and the 1017 gathering. Lori Hubbard and I made a short video that shows you how to do this and how to import names to invite more people. Please check this out and see how easy it is to do this!

Jon do we have a method in place to capture #FB #Twitter #YouTube #Flickr #Ustream URLs & Handles? A simple Excel spreadsheet (so we could export as .csv file to a number of databases) would do the trick. Thoughts on how best to collect?
