Welcome to Solidarity Beloved Community Initiative (SBCI)

The Sunyata Association {501(c)(3)} will host "as requested" (just-in-time) gatherings of the CAN "Beloved Communities" — Solidarity Beloved Community Initiative (SBCI) on community, environment, social justice, and wellness to provide a venue for community, environmentalists, social justice activists, wellness practitioners, economists, government, business, and the arts — to "workshop" projects for implementing the “Green Economy” (“Net-Provider” Strategy).

This is not a "standing" meeting every month — we invite community members to submit a proposal to “workshop” their projects on a particular third Wednesday of a month that has not already been scheduled out. All we need is at least three weeks advanced notice so that we can confirm the location availability, block-out the schedule, and post the event announcement. If there are no proposals for a given month — we will not have a meeting.

When meetings are held, they will be on the third Wednesday of the reserved month from 6pm — 8pm (unless otherwise noted). GGLO, an integrated design firm specializing in Design for the Human Experience, is generously providing their Space at the Steps as co-host for our gatherings in 2010.

GGLO’s Space at the Steps is made available to non-profits and other groups that share our core values of community and sustainable urbanism. By offering Space at the Steps for use by the community, GGLO hopes to promote the kind of spirited discussion and sharing of ideas that will help catalyze the creation of places that benefit both people and the planet. Sharing our space with members of our community supports GGLO’s mission of Design for the Human Experience.

The venue is ideally located in downtown Seattle right off of Harbor Steps, one of the City’s most dramatic and well-used urban open spaces. It can hold an audience of up to 80 people, and is equipped with dedicated digital projection and sound.

Please welcome and engage GGLO — a LEEDS architecture practitioner — at our monthly meetings !

CAN Solidarity Beloved Community Initiative (SBCI)
(Proposed Group Intentions)

VISION:
Community-centered, compassion-based, wise collective leadership and action — focused on the centrality of “Beloved Community” for creating social, economic, environmental, and spiritual wellbeing.

GOALS:
To manifest “Beloved Community” by cultivating efficient and effective relationships through shared purpose (highest aspiration), natural selection (fit-to-environment), self-organization (generative patterns), and affinity of Consciousness (awareness | volition | learning | practice | depth) — focused on creating social, economic, environmental, and spiritual wellbeing.

OPERATIONAL PROCESS:
"Starting from within, working in a circle in a sacred manner, we develop and heal ourselves, our relationships and the world."

PERSONAL PRACTICE:
To commit ourselves to the practice of Hearing, Seeing, and unconditionally Loving (H-S-L) ourselves, each other, and our ecosystems in – every encounter and every relationship. In being individually and collectively accountable for H-S-L and the promises and commitments we make – We ask: Is this action helpful (manifests well-being), compassionate (manifests unconditional love) and transparent (manifests trust), or is it simply an inappropriate exercise of power and/or unexamined assumptions?”

THE PROJECT:
Our Nation’s survival depends on our commitment and ability to individually and collectively implement values, lifestyles, practices, processes, policies, and technology that transform how we think and live from a — “Consumer” paradigm, to an economic and ecological “Net Provider” of water, food, energy, infrastructure, wellness, information, and compassionate human relationships. Being a “Net Provider” is about implementing a whole-person, whole-system approach to lifestyle changes and sustainable practices.

The purpose of the Net-Provider “Project” is to architect and collaboratively implement sustainable and scalable “Net Provider” demonstration projects. These projects are intended to transform individual and collective “Consciousness”, values, lifestyles, practices, processes, policies, and technology. The goal is to move from a “Consumer” paradigm to an economic “Net Provider” of water, food, energy, infrastructure, wellness, information, human services, and compassionate human relationships.

The Goal of the Net-Provider “Project” is to implement sustainable “Net-Provider” practices and systems: that are ecologically-sound and economically viable; which provide for their own needs; do not exploit or pollute; develop the capacity and experience for humans to hear, see, and love themselves, each other, and the Earth; and are therefore sustainable and generative in the long term. The strategy is to work from personal (residence, workspace) to collective (commons, neighborhood, workplace, . . .) to implement “Net-Provider” practices and technology around water (i.e., surface water reclamation), food (i.e., gardens and CSA), energy (i.e., renewable and energy reclamation), infrastructure (whole-lifecycle optimization of — technology design | reuse | recycle; life-long education; leadership; facilities; transportation; integrated logistics, local distribution, . . . ), wellness (health resource optimization), information (data, knowledge, wisdom), human services (basic needs), and compassionate human relationships.

ACTION INQUIRIES:
What becomes possible, or can be done more efficiently and effectively together — than can be accomplished separately?
What are the demonstration projects — important issues and solutions — where there is readiness and benefit from the collective support of our organizations and communities?

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
To perform compassionate action — not just have compassionate feelings or engage in compassionate talk — where success can be measured by the effectiveness of lives positively changed, communities sustainably transformed, reconciliation accomplished, peace manifested, and justice realized.

Mark, That is great to hear! Dr. Stanley Krippner is senior faculty of Saybrook University and I believe he is on this website. He was just here on 10/07 for LIOS/Saybrook faculty meeting. He gave an evening presentation to 45 faculty and alumni. On 1/28-30, 2011, I will be hosting another Transform Your Mythic Path: Personal Mythology and Dreamwork weekend intensive workshop in Bellevue not far from the LIOS campus. This will be the 5th professional and public workshop I have hosted with Dr. Krippner in the NW in the last 1.5 years. He always incorporates a multi-cultural component in the myth shifting work. As before, there is already substantial student discount for Saybrook alumini, faculty and students. However, given what you have written, I would be willing to offer some scholarships too. This experiential workshop is perfect to help people get in touch with the bigger story and to be able to compassionately change their life story and influence others. It has transformed many a story! I hope you will consider working with us. Please see www.mythevolve.com.

LIOS Graduate College of Saybrook University — Initiates "Scholarships for Multicultural Leaders"

LIOS offers graduate-level training programs that begin to reveal the fundamentals of what Compassionate Leadership can be. And now LIOS is reaching out to support the cultivation of Beloved Communities by offering scholarships to Multicultural Leaders. I am now faculty at LIOS and am working on this initiative.

Beginning with its spring 2011 class, LIOS Graduate College of Saybrook University will be offering substantial coverage of tuition costs for select graduate students from underrepresented and ethno-cultural communities. The new scholarship is designed to assist qualified students with financing for the LIOS Graduate College master’s programs in Leadership in Organization Development and Systems Counseling. Up to 10 scholarships will be awarded per year and are renewable at the beginning of the second year of study to students who remain in good standing.

LIOS, a pioneer in experiential education and leadership studies, is offering the scholarship in an effort to help emerging leaders from multicultural environments develop leadership styles targeted for the needs of their unique cultures as well as the broader global community. The Scholarship for Multicultural Leaders application is available at: LIOS_Multi-Cult_Scholar_App.pdf

Eligibility includes applicant’s self-identification as a racial/ethnic minority; demonstrated leadership action in school, community or professional organizations; and merit as shown in professional, volunteer and/or educational performance.

According to Sheldon Drogin, Ed.D., president of LIOS Graduate College: “We believe the health of diverse communities demands leaders capable of adapting to a broad range of approaches and styles. This scholarship will not only enable further education for current and aspiring leaders in multicultural environments, but it will also enrich the cultural awareness of the current LIOS student body.”

For more information on the Scholarship for Multicultural Leaders, please contact Jennifer Herron at: LIOS Admissions

Wonderful Mark! Very very good news!!! Let's be certain that people hear about this! I suggest that the word be posted at El Centro, Seattle Central Community College, Evergreen, Western Washington, etc, AND I will let my grandchildren who are involved with Latino communities in California know.

Hello from PUne INdia! WE need GGLO here! Many opportunities for LEED building in INdia! Big and very small!
I strongly urge all of you to show up at our February meeting in the GGLO meeting space! After several weeks of work here in India, on projects as diverse as a compassionate social entrepreneuring partnership between SOIL (School of INspired Leadership) students, & NGOs to better the lives of "village" (slum) children who live at the doorstep of the "green" SOIL building; and sitting in a circle in Pune that is sensing into what healing initiatives are called for in Kashmir at this moment ...my sense is that NOW at GGLO is the time and place to dramatically shift the level of our Beloved Community work!
You all have important initiatives birthing, and some already out in the world. By being together, sharing food and inspiration, workshopping our projects, we are inviting the synergy that could make a huge difference in each of our abilities to serve the world as we aspire to. And it needs US!
I tip my cup of hot chai (that someone just kindly served me) to all of you. AND, I aim to learn how to upload pics very soon.
Bundles of love to you all! Anne
