Compassionate Seattle

I will be brief, I am a recent member, alive
in Uruguay, South America and my concern is regarding
several possibilities of reading the content of your site
in Spanish.
I tried to translate the site with several translators
Online, Google Translator, WordLingo, etc., but translates
immediately to redeploy to the original site
English.
I think if you solve this problem your
site could be more widespread and accepted in countries where
speaking Spanish.

Hi Eduardo - I'm sorry that I haven't been able to respond to you in email. The email system on the Ning platform is not currently working. I agree that it would be wonderful to have translated versions of the CAN site. My only experience with this process on the Web requires building a customized site and having someone do the translations by hand, which we don't currently have the resources to support.

However, it sounds as if you've tried automatic translators but they didn't work for some reason? Does anyone know of a way that we can automatically translate the site? The tools Eduardo listed above seem promising. It's hard to believe this would actually work well but maybe the technology has progressed? What are the steps to implement this on the CAN site? If it's easy, let's try it! Thanks.
Hi Eduardo - After meeting with the CAN Executive Director and a Board member yesterday, I am happy to say that we will fulfill your request for adding a language translator to the CAN site. I'm adding it to a list of tasks for 2010. Hopefully, we'll be able to add the translator at the same time we add a donate button, which is urgent. Thanks for speaking up!
Hi Pamela:
Thank you very much for your attention in this regard
greetings for you

Hi Pam,

Let's chat about this. Basic info can easily be translated. But ongoing blog discussions will be more difficult. Best language tool for this is Google right now--a good "gist" translation should be doable.
Hi Eduardo! We haven't forgotten your excellent idea below. We will incorporate it into a global outreach strategy for the 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities. Happy New Year!
Thanks to Anil for his comment below. I hadn't seen it until now. We'll be happy to include you in the planning for this feature.
Pam, thank you very much, and Happy New Year to you and also everyone in the group.
