CAN Inventory of Resources
This discussion focuses on creating an inventory of assets -- tangible and intangible -- that are manifest as resources that can be utilized in accomplishing the work of CAN. Please look this list over and let me know is missing or should be removed. Thanks! The six categories of resources identified are:
1. Human Resource

4. Physical Resources

1. Human Resources
Perhaps our most critical asset is the combined network of relationships that we represent; this includes members as well as prospective members. These human resources show up as databases or lists of people and contact information that could be used to invite them to participate, i.e. volunteer, attend, or join the network. We have:
• 500 plus members of the CAN Social Network.
• 600 plus people who signed up for a CAN newsletter on the iContact list.
• There were sign up lists from CAN events.
• Members of our leadership group also have lists of potential members (e.g. NICO, Seeds of Compassion, Interra, etc.).
What other lists of participants do we have?
2. Interactive Resources
There are a number of websites that have some relationship to CAN, here is a list:
• The Compassionate Action Network Ning Social Network
• WiserEarth Community Directory
• Seeds of Compassion website that has a social network with 369 people
• SoC lists as "Sprouts" CAN plus:
o Roots of Empathy
o Wisdom Commons
o Bellingham Compassion Movement
• Wiki.Seeds of Compassion
• Facebook Page 1
• Facebook Page 2
• Twitter Page
There were two major efforts to gather feedback, the Feedback Forum at the Seeds of Compassion event, and a recently conducted member survey.
We also have statistical data on our social network made available through Google Analytics.
3. Events
Events are non-persistent time based occurrences. CAN will produce, co-sponsor or support:
• Two Seasonal Gatherings
• Workshops
• Open Spaces
• Conferences
• Film Screenings
• Dinners
• Performances
• Webcasts
• GoToMeetings
4. Physical Resources
We have access to places that we can meet; these locations include:
• Camp Brotherhood in Arlington
• Kohala Sanctuary on the Northern Tip of the Big Island of Hawaii
• Roaonke House in Capitol Hill
• Ramer Household in North Seattle
• Maritz Household on Mercer Island
• Stadler Household in Lake Forest
• Dan Kranzler Conference Room in Seattle
What other physical resources do we have access to?
5. Media
Media includes content visualizations through photo and videos, audio realized through music and spoken and written word in the form of documents.
• Photos organized into Albums on the social network site.
• Videos organized clips and movies added to the social network site.
• Music tracks and albums added to the social network.
• We have the texts and grounding documents we have created.
What other media do we have access to?
6. Member Services
Members services are the systems that deliver value to our members, these include:
• Event Calendar and RSVP service
• News Feed
• Group Functions
• Resource Match Up for Offers/Requests
• Education, Training, Coaching, and Support
• Peer to Peer Interactions and Referrals
• Endorsements

Member Services could offer: Resource Matchup
ie: I post what I want to offer; Others post what they NEED. That way individuals who are coaches, teachers, consultants, videographers, etc. can list themselves and what they have to offer, and people who want Help can look there to try to get it.
Stadler house is also available for smallish meetings in the North end. -

Skye Burn can offer meeting space and/or film screening room in Bellingham. Seats about 20, equipped with screen, projector, and folding conference table.

Henry A. Giroux holds the Global TV Network chair in English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University in Canada. His most recent books include "Take Back Higher Education" (co-authored with Susan Searls Giroux, 2006), "The University in Chains: Confronting the Military-Industrial-Academic Complex" (2007) and "Against the Terror of Neoliberalism: Politics Beyond the Age of Greed" (2008). His newest book, "Youth in a Suspect Society: Beyond the Politics of Disposability," will be published by Palgrave Mcmillan in 2009. -

Thanks for giving clarity to a lot of information, Jon. Something missing either under Media or Services; a media mentor service or tutorial section. The better versed our members are, the easier it is to move us all towards our highest potential.

Once the Polish Home on Capitol Hill is finished with its remodel there will be a conference room for meetings with appointment -work should be done after the first of the year.

The Bellingham Compassion Movement is establishing three traditional events focusing on Compassionate Action and taking place on the Fall and Spring Equinox and the Winter Solstice.
The delightful and important aspect of these events is the way that they support an emergent leadership model. -

I would love to be the Virtual Community Organizer providing CAN with how to videos. Starting in January I'm going to be posting between 3 - 5 videos a week and can commit to uploading them to CAN : )
