Consider becoming an Ambassador for the Parliament of World Religions too!

Plans of an Ambassadors network and activities will gear up once the location of the 2014 Parliament of World Religions is decided!

The Ambassador Program

In 2009, the Council launched a successful Ambassador Program, comprised of 120 international Ambassadors representing over 19 different countries. The role of the Ambassador is a select opportunity, open to leaders who are involved and invested in the interfaith movement in their local communities.

Click here to view a list of current Ambassadors

Qualifications of an Ambassador

  • Ambassadors have a passion for and a desire to further the interfaith movement.
  • Ambassadors are skilled in forging relationships with local organizations, associations, communities, and media.
  • Ambassadors serve as interfaith leaders in their respective communities and also in the broader interfaith movement.
  • Ambassadors possess a thorough and working knowledge of the history of the Parliament and a deep commitment to furthering interfaith work in their communities.
  • Ambassadors possess exceptional presentation, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities of an Ambassador

  • Promote the mission and values of the Council in working towards a just, peaceful, and sustainable world and promoting peace among the world’s religions
  • Raise awareness about the interreligious movement through creating positive social change by mobilizing networks to come together on the issues most important to them.
  • Communicate with other Ambassadors and nurture the Ambassador program through support, compassion, and feedback.
  • Build knowledge about and interest in the 2014 Parliament by hosting outreach events.

Seattle is being considered aPartner City applicant to the Parliament of World Religions' Partner Cities Network. Imagine each Partner City acting on compassion!

Cities around the world are providing living examples of how interreligious encounter and dialogue can weave together the fabric of human community in new and enduring ways. There is the need to foster and enhance a rich and vibrant local grassroots interreligious movement, in order to promote harmonious and cooperative relationships between these communities, and to support their efforts in working with other sectors of their community in creating a more just, peaceful, and sustainable city.

The Partner Cities Network serves to create a global dynamic that binds cities together through a network that facilitates the sharing of best practices and inspires opportunities for cooperative action between cities.  The Council created The Partner Cities Network to support this need which ultimately fosters social cohesion and harmony.  To learn about the Benefits of Joining, click here

Inaugural Partner Cities were announced at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Melbourne, December 2009. They include:

  • Chicago, Illinois, USA
  • Cape Town, South Africa
  • Barcelona, Spain
  • Monterrey, Mexico
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • San Jose, California, USA

Cities interested in applying to the network organize themselves to meet the criteria below.  To learn more about How to Joinclick here.

  • Completion of a City Profile
  • Hosting a City-Wide Multi-Faith Event
  • Sharing Resources and Methodologies

The current 2010 Applicant Cities to the Partner Cities Network are:

  • Brussels, Belgium,
  • Dallas-Forth Worth, Texas, USA
  • Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico
  • Manchester, England
  • Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
  • Seattle, Washington, USA
  • San Diego, California, USA
The Council is interested in hearing from cities who demonstrate that they take action to bring the efforts, goodwill, and wisdom of religious and spiritual communities around the world to bear on local and cross-regional issues and concerns.

Sisters and Brothers, All are welcome to join in a Vigil/Visitation @ the ICE Detention Center in Tacoma on Saturday, Feb 12th.  ICE= Immigration & Customs Enforcement, which authorizes the for-profit corporation, GEO Group, to imprison undocumented immigrants in our name.  Come to see for yourself and meet some of the victims of our broken immigration system.  Details on the CAN events page. http://my.compassionateactionnetwork.com/events/vigil-hospitality-ice

Women's Spiritual Leadership:
A Resource for Global Change

A Circle Dialogue at NGO-CSW 2011
February 28, 2011
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Drew Room -1st floor
Church Center
(across the street from the U.N. - corner 44th St. and First Ave.)
777 U.N. Plaza
New York, NY

This gathering is open to the public. No fee and no UN credentials required.

Join us for this lively dialogue exploring important questions about women, spirituality and global leadership.

What is the special contribution of women to spiritual leadership?
How can we nurture the leadership and power that is emerging from women now?
How do we redefine power?
How do we speak our truth?
How do we stand for the greatness of each other?
What is waiting to be birthed in the community of women of spirit and faith?
How can the feminine voices of compassion, unity and hope become more real and compelling than the voices of fear and separation?
What can we do together that none of us could do separately?

If anyone can provide a ride for me tomorrow from Northgate to Roanoke, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise I'll try calling in. I'll try calling your cell phone John if you don't mind.

Thanks!

What do Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam teach us about the concept of happiness? What do these ancient traditions hold in common about this often elusive state of being, and what are their greatest points of difference? How do they define happiness?
