We invite you to start a reading group for "Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life" by Karen Armstrong in your community. The Reading Group Guide for organizers is available on the Charter for Compassion website. A portion of the book's proceeds will support the Charter that won the 2008 TED Prize for Karen Armstrong. Comment by Roselle Kovitz on February 13, 2012 at 9:41am For those who attended (or would like to attend) the Seattle East West Bookshop Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life discussion, we'll be discussing the Twelfth Step: Love Your Enemies this Wednesday, February 15th from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at East West Bookshop in the Tea Garden. Further details are available here.
I look forward to our discussion.
Comment by Roselle Kovitz on January 17, 2012 at 7:03pm Given the weather prediction for tomorrow (and taking the lead from Seattle schools which will be closed), our Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life reading group tomorrow, Wednesday, 1/18, is cancelled. I'll check with East West Bookshop about rescheduling our final meeting.
Comment by Roselle Kovitz on January 17, 2012 at 5:00pm To those planning to attend the Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life reading group at East West Bookshop in Seattle tomorrow (January 18th): In the interest of everyone's safety, if schools are closed in Seattle tomorrow due to snow and ice, I feel we should follow their lead and cancel the group. I'll listen for the forecast tomorrow and post a note about the status of the meeting then.
Comment by Roselle Kovitz on January 11, 2012 at 11:07am For those of you in Seattle, we'll be discussing the final(!) twelfth step, "Love Your Enemies" at East West Bookshop next Wednesday, January 18th from 7-8:30 p.m. I'll be substituting for Rev. Cheen as the facilitator. I've posted details on an events page. Whether you've joined us before or this will be your first time, we'd love to have you join us.
Comment by PamKM on December 12, 2011 at 6:42pm Thanks Andy. Yes, Karen Armstrong is remarkable. She won the 2008 TED Prize for her wish to create a Charter for Compassion that will help restore the Golden Rule to the center of religious, moral and civic life. For more info on the Charter, see two quick videos from TED:

Comment by Hilton Mayston on November 30, 2011 at 4:42am Thankyou Roselle, Pam and Skye for your contributions here and in compiling the guide.
Comment by Hilton Mayston on November 30, 2011 at 4:26am To confirm this thread is only for faciltating book groups not for discussing the book.
Pam, I was previously advised that answer would not be provided to my questions and that a more private forum was required.(clearly no forum exists to discuss the book on-line)
I have decided to follow the The Reading Group Guide for myself as a group of one until a person chooses to assist me.
CAN International Institute supports compassionate initiatives in cities, towns, counties, states and provinces, regions, nations, universities, faith groups, schools, service groups, and other places where human beings gather.
