Comment by Roselle Kovitz on September 7, 2011 at 10:29am We had a wonderful discussion during the last Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life Reading Group meeting in Seattle. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, September 21 at East West Bookshop. We'll be discussing Step 8: How Do We Talk to Each Other. This is such an important topic regardless of what is going on, but especially as we reflect on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. Cheen has posted details here.
We haven't had much activity in this group for awhile. What's on your mind in regard to the Twelve Steps? Are there any obstacles you're finding particularly difficult? Any experiences you'd like to share?
I just watched Joan Halifax's TED talk (which I highly recommend and is posted on this site--see Videos on the right) and was struck by her comment about cultivating an undefended heart. When I am aware of it and feel a tightness around my heart, I do try to open it to others, but it is not undefended. I love that image, though, and will make that an intention.

Comment by Roselle Kovitz on August 15, 2011 at 11:34am If you're in Seattle, join us on Wednesday, August 17 at 7 p.m. to discuss Step 7: How Little We Know from Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life at East West Bookshop. Rev. Cheen is back from her travels and will lead us through the discussion. I just discussed this step with a small group of friends and it proved to be a rich topic. Details on the reading group are available here. Hope to see you on Wednesday!
For those of you working your way through the book, feel free to share your impressions or questions for this CAN group here.
