In April 2010, Seattle became the first city in the world to affirm the Charter for Compassion. The Mayor and City Council proclaimed that Seattle is a Compassionate City. This is the organizing group for the local 10 year campaign. Join us!See More
We invite you to start a reading group for "Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life" by Karen Armstrong in your community. The Reading Group Guide for organizers is available on the Charter for Compassion website. A portion of the book's proceeds will support the Charter that won the 2008 TED Prize for Karen Armstrong. Questions and comments are welcome below. See More

Hi - I am writing to ask for your support in creating a compassionate world. When I started the Compassionate Action Network I was hoping that social networks could be part of how we activate the will and find a way to make just and lasting change. I am grateful that you joined this network and I sincerely hope that it has made some difference in your life and your community.
It was the action part of compassionate action that got my attention. So now I invite you to be part of taking another step forward together. I ask that you take two minutes to join the 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities if you haven’t already.
We need 1,000 people to join by March 15 to have the Mayor and City Council follow through on their end. If you personally join the campaign and share or send this on to others we will take a big collective step forward in building our capacity to make change happen. This is not just another petition, what you do will make a difference. You can learn more about this here
You don’t need to be a Seattle resident to join this campaign, and this idea is spreading. Campaigns have started or are starting in Vancouver, BC, Bellingham, Bellevue, Issaquah, Spokane, Portland, San Francisco, and London.
If there ever was a time to stand together and affirm that what each of us does and does not do makes a difference it is now. I ask that you find the time to add your name to the growing list of people awakening compassion in our cities and our world. Join here now
Carol -- yes to face to face! IN fact we had a major event yesterday -- "All My Relations: A Celebration of Gratitude at Thanksgiving!. I regret you didn't know about it and attend. The role of the online is to augment our face to face and stay connected. It is also helpful to be able to reach out to meet others with similar interests. I look forward to seeing you somewhere soon and talking with you online!
