Duty is not a Four Letter Word

When I ponder this existence, this particular one in the temporal stream that I am existing in, I see the variables and the subsequent 'realities' that unfold like, to me, vertexes teased from a quadratic equation format. I have been good at that my whole life, to see things unfold. Here. Right Here and now, with the complexities of systems supporting systems into some Bureaucratic monolith we seem to crave a complex answer, we crave complexity because of the seemingly, almost if not wholly,…See More

Introduction to Value Foundation Development at Valentines Men's Grooming Salon

July 20, 2009 from 6pm to 8pm
Value Foundation Development: is the belief that all systems (parenting, governing, teaching, etc) are created from a value base. In order to make lasting consistent change in any system the value foundation must be addressed. In order to create a compassionate society (system) one has to focus on the root catalysts, to support, amend, understand what they are in order for this to be a sustainable movement. This program is going to delve into the whys and hows to do this in an introductory…See More

The Value Bankruptcy in the Age of (un)Reason

When I gaze at the modern symbols of Man: the skyscraper, the computer, and now the vast reach of software e.g. twitter; I am reminded of the foundational causation of such efforts: the immoral Man. I am loathe to use the term morality and I did not in the title, deferring to Values, because in our class wars ‘morality’ has become a loaded term. I am not using it in a religious term (I am not removing it from that realm either) but in a sense of our overall foundational reasoning for our…See More

Responsiblity as a Means to Freedom

When I thought about freedom as a young man I thought about, to render it down, long stretches on a white sand beach, turquoise water, maybe a pretty girl or two. I thought about what it was that I could consume at will. That my unending appetite would not be met with any resistance either by dearth or opposing will. However, this mentality never gave me the opportunity to lay on that white sand beach in the metaphoric sense. I never was free. Even when I laid on that beach the mind thought of…See More

Iran and Misguided Outrage

When Ideagiant came into genesis as an idea (and I know it is not much more than that right now but growing, if incrementally) that the woes of the world are specific but they are rooted in an outdated value foundation and thus: this anachronistic catalyst causes the specific sorrows. This outdated system is selfishness to give it a simple description and is one of the two infinite wells: selfishness and selflessness (for more in depth reasoning of this see my blog posts: Systech and The…See More

The World’s Psyche and a Possible Selfless Singularity

When I used to think of the world it was in a multiple of ways: as a conglomeration of instances, a competition of factions, and a bedrock of semi-permanent ‘truths’. That was the general feel of it. But as I have meandered through this life with an attempt at observation and reflection it has slowly changed. Even more recently it has changed into an almost, and I hesitate to use such a, usually, inane term-spooky.When one becomes sensitive to the world, when they are able to see, to some…See More

Hi - I am writing to ask for your support in creating a compassionate world. When I started the Compassionate Action Network I was hoping that social networks could be part of how we activate the will and find a way to make just and lasting change. I am grateful that you joined this network and I sincerely hope that it has made some difference in your life and your community.

It was the action part of compassionate action that got my attention. So now I invite you to be part of taking another step forward together. I ask that you take two minutes to join the 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities if you haven’t already.

We need 1,000 people to join by March 15 to have the Mayor and City Council follow through on their end. If you personally join the campaign and share or send this on to others we will take a big collective step forward in building our capacity to make change happen. This is not just another petition, what you do will make a difference. You can learn more about this here

You don’t need to be a Seattle resident to join this campaign, and this idea is spreading. Campaigns have started or are starting in Vancouver, BC, Bellingham, Bellevue, Issaquah, Spokane, Portland, San Francisco, and London.

If there ever was a time to stand together and affirm that what each of us does and does not do makes a difference it is now. I ask that you find the time to add your name to the growing list of people awakening compassion in our cities and our world. Join here now
