Compassionate Listening and Peacemaking, an Introductory Workshop at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh, NC

February 6, 2010 all day
Compassionate Listening is a foundational skill-set designed to empower individuals and communities to build cultures of peace in the fabric of their everyday lives and in the world. As builders of peace, we learn to move beyond a mindset that dehumanizes and demonizes the ‘other’, seeking instead to listen, to feel compassion for, and to see ourselves in the ‘other’, the ‘other’ in ourselves. The Compassionate Listening Project offers practices that reach deep into the heart of discord,…See More

"Jon, Thanks for your supportive words. I'm just grateful that there are so many living branches on the larger tree of compassion, "compassionate listening" being one of them. Pick a branch and climb on up! Jan"

Hi - I am writing to ask for your support in creating a compassionate world. When I started the Compassionate Action Network I was hoping that social networks could be part of how we activate the will and find a way to make just and lasting change. I am grateful that you joined this network and I sincerely hope that it has made some difference in your life and your community.

It was the action part of compassionate action that got my attention. So now I invite you to be part of taking another step forward together. I ask that you take two minutes to join the 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities if you haven’t already.

We need 1,000 people to join by March 15 to have the Mayor and City Council follow through on their end. If you personally join the campaign and share or send this on to others we will take a big collective step forward in building our capacity to make change happen. This is not just another petition, what you do will make a difference. You can learn more about this here

You don’t need to be a Seattle resident to join this campaign, and this idea is spreading. Campaigns have started or are starting in Vancouver, BC, Bellingham, Bellevue, Issaquah, Spokane, Portland, San Francisco, and London.

If there ever was a time to stand together and affirm that what each of us does and does not do makes a difference it is now. I ask that you find the time to add your name to the growing list of people awakening compassion in our cities and our world. Join here now
