I was selected as a juror for a civil trial in my county. One day the discussion between the lawyers got a little heated, and the judge stopped everything for a minute. He asked everyone if they knew that Basalt had become a Compassionte City. He said that we all needed to respect each other, and be more like Basalt. We're underway here in Basalt, Colorado as the second municipality to officially participate in the 10 Year Campaign for Compassionate Cities. Our four middle school students--Stephanie Anglin, Lindsay Anderson, Chase Ellsperman, and Eli Pettet--and I are spreading the word about the Charter for Compassion and working with town employees to plan an Earth Day gathering that will build our Compassionate Action team.
