Responsiblity as a Means to Freedom

When I thought about freedom as a young man I thought about, to render it down, long stretches on a white sand beach, turquoise water, maybe a pretty girl or two. I thought about what it was that I could consume at will. That my unending appetite would not be met with any resistance either by dearth or opposing will. However, this mentality never gave me the opportunity to lay on that white sand beach in the metaphoric sense. I never was free. Even when I laid on that beach the mind thought of… Continue

Saving the Jungle in Peru

I am reposting an email from my friend Michaud:

Dear Reader,

Espiritu de la Selva has been working to create a reserve of

sacred land in Peru. Of the 1000,000 hectares of jungle being sold by

the

Peruvian government, we have so far managed to save one plot of 5,000

hectares. Thank you to those who have donated and offered loans. To

complete this reserve of land, and continue to protect the homes of

indigenous communities, we need your help.… Continue

Iran and Misguided Outrage

When Ideagiant came into genesis as an idea (and I know it is not much more than that right now but growing, if incrementally) that the woes of the world are specific but they are rooted in an outdated value foundation and thus: this anachronistic catalyst causes the specific sorrows. This outdated system is selfishness to give it a simple description and is one of the two infinite wells: selfishness and selflessness (for more in depth reasoning of this see my blog posts: Systech and The… Continue

The World’s Psyche and a Possible Selfless Singularity

When I used to think of the world it was in a multiple of ways: as a conglomeration of instances, a competition of factions, and a bedrock of semi-permanent ‘truths’. That was the general feel of it. But as I have meandered through this life with an attempt at observation and reflection it has slowly changed. Even more recently it has changed into an almost, and I hesitate to use such a, usually, inane term-spooky.

When one becomes sensitive to the world, when they are able to see,… Continue

Entertainment, Media, and Politics

I have decided that I will place the thoughts that I am having that either have or are currently catalyzing the evolution of my IdeaGiant idea. I think this will be a good example of what I am trying to do with the Ideagiant philosophy that all things change or evolve, and that for far too long, in our cultural/societal movement it has been a blind evolution based on an age old paradigm (selfishness). Evolution in a biological sense was pushed by the drive to survive and propagate but it need… Continue

Environmentalism Vs Entrepreneurism

I have been hearing a lot about how these two can be brought under one umbrella. I believe that many are calling it social entrepreneurship. I think that they are unassailable walls that are not able to be assuaged, cleaved, or brought asunder until they mix. That is not possible because of their disparate value systems.

The environment and its health as the ultimate arbiter of whether the Environmental movement, whatever it is, is good or bad, there are varying degrees of what this… Continue

Open Source and the Value Boom

I spoke to a friend of mine after I wrote the previous entry on "more specifics" and talked to him about my idea. He is a staid fellow steeped into the practices of business and when he heard what I had to say he smiled, "it’s doable", and I knew he meant on a technological side. Or I thought. I prodded him with,

"Yeah, I didn't think that it was going to be too hard technologically. It seemed to me, and my small understanding of such tools, to be doable."

"No. I meant the… Continue

From The Pachamama Alliance - Take Action on State of Emergency in Peru

Dear Pachamama Community,

There is currently a state of emergency in Peru, where the indigenous people have been peacefully protesting the violation of their territorial and human rights. On Friday, violent attacks on peaceful indigenous blockades in the Peruvian Amazon left 25 civilians and 9 police dead and hundreds injured.

Pachamama in Ecuador has played a key role in supporting this movement by providing important financial, logistical, communications, and legal… Continue

More Specifics

I think I have to be more specific about what I am trying to do. This is going to be in three overt stages but there are going to be, as always, smaller ones along the way. I will address the first one here.

1) I want to start an evolving article focusing on those people/organizations that are helping to change the old value system that all of our modern incarnations are laid upon. I know they probably wouldn't phrase it like that but again this goes back to my mission trying to… Continue

Systech

I am good at looking at data, for the lack of a better term, and am able to see the causes, patterns of cause, and the systems that support them. When I look at the modern world it used to drive me insane with its chaotic and incoherent mess. I had to turn off this aspect of my being in order to be able to walk through this life without going mad. I think that many of us do this, that we turn off our cognitive abilities because the static from the massive amount of seemingly chaotic data, is… Continue
