The constellation model of collaborative social change

Hello,

I am passionate about collaborations, networks, taking social innovation to scale, and new forms of governance. What does a compassionate governance system look like for running a city, a state, a corporation, a school? I love that compassion is our grounding principle. It's our key design principle and so it should be incorporated into all aspects of how we design and redesign our world.

I am involved with creating a Social Innovation Center here in Seattle and… Continue

Building Trust (Online & Onlife)

Building Trust is such a key component of our lives and it is how we are able to make amazing things happen with small groups of people. If the trust is high, creativity is high, compassion is enabled and nurtured, collaboration results. How do we translate that into the online world?

I have followed the work of Eugene Kim through a few different routes and really appreciate his passion for collaboration and connectivity and collective wisdom. Here he takes on this topic of Building… Continue

Network Weaving - a key to thrivability (and therefore more capacity for compassion)

As a networker, a weaver, a bridgeweaver, a translator and a meshworker, I love to dance in this field of what does it mean to live within your community and support its growth. To me this is the essence of compassion.

Here is more wisdom about Network Weaving and it's relationship to creating thrivability...

A thrivable entity is one that is richly and dynamically interconnected into its ecosystem, engaged in a process of continuous co-creation. The upward… Continue

Thrivability or Sustainability

This is a seed about how we frame things, the language we choose and the impact that has on down the line. The last decade has focussed on sustainability and this has been in a good thing in many ways...we want sustainable business, sustainable seattle, sustainable cascadia, but what happens when we substitute the word "thrivable" for the word "sustainable" in all those places where we are proud to say sustainably? Something shifts inside me. I want to thrive, I am less interested in… Continue

Wendell Berry - Basis for Hope

"we now have hundreds of large and small organizations devoted to protecting or saving things of value that are endangered: peace, kindness, freedom, childhood, health, wilderness areas, rivers, species of plants and animals, cultures, languages, farmland, family farms, farm families, families, the atmosphere, scenic roads, fine old buildings, historic places, holy places, quietness, darkness. More, and more, as I tell over our lengthening catalog of calamities and discouragements, I think of… Continue

A coalition already exists in Spirit

A favorite reflection from an old friend that speaks to the spirit of Compassion in Action:

"A coalition already exists in spirit. It is coming together now in the social context by the attraction of its unconventional intelligence and compassionate form of high-mindedness. This natural coalition is drawn together by the recognition that the elevation of consciousness is our

fundamental life work. This is a genuinely democratic, self-organizing force, flowing through persons of all… Continue

A Bright Welcome to This New Year

"Release painful patterns through embrace and not through struggle. We open our hearts to ourselves, each other and to the Universal Presence in which we are sustained. On the brink of this new year, we awaken to renewed choice. We seek the thoughts, images, feelings and actions that will more clearly reflect the Loving and Peaceful Heart always at…
