CAN Response to Teen Violence in Seattle Bus Tunnel

Dear CAN Members,
How should we respond to the horrific situation in which a 15-year-old girl was beaten in the Seattle bus tunnel while security guards watched without intervening? (See http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2011027703_webbeati...)

In general, what type of "action" do you think the Compassionate Action Network should take when news such as the bus tunnel story or Haiti happens. For example:

1. Post a news headline so the community has a shared understanding of current events. (Anyone can post a headline!)
2. Add a special section to the CAN home page. We did this with the Haiti photos and added a link to a list of credible relief organizations that accepted donations. (Contact Jon Ramer or PamKM)
3. Post videos and photos on the right column of the home page. (We check regularly for new media. Feel free to contact PamKM if you have something urgent.)
4. If CAN members want to take further action, they might create a group on the site to track the bus tunnel story and advocate to the Seattle City Council and Police Department to ensure it never happens again.

All ideas are welcome. CAN is a network of self-organizing groups so members are welcome to use this web platform to take action and share lessons learned. Thanks!

Kind Regards,
PamKM
