LIOS offers Graduate-level training programs that begin to reveal the fundamentals of what Compassionate Leadership can be. And now LIOS is reaching out to support the cultivation of Beloved Communities by offering scholarships to Multicultural Leaders. I am now a faculty member at LIOS, and am working on this initiative.
Beginning with its spring 2011 class, LIOS Graduate College of Saybrook University will be offering substantial coverage of tuition costs for select graduate students from underrepresented and ethno-cultural communities. The new scholarship is designed to assist qualified students with financing for the LIOS Graduate College master’s programs in Leadership in Organization Development and Systems Counseling. Up to 10 scholarships will be awarded per year and are renewable at the beginning of the second year of study to students who remain in good standing.
LIOS, a pioneer in experiential education and leadership studies, is offering the scholarship in an effort to help emerging leaders from multicultural environments develop leadership styles targeted for the needs of their unique cultures as well as the broader global community. The Scholarship for Multicultural Leaders application is available at:
LIOS_Multi-Cult_Scholar_App.pdf or liosadmissions@lios.saybrook.edu
Eligibility includes applicant’s self-identification as a racial/ethnic minority; demonstrated leadership action in school, community or professional organizations; and merit as shown in professional, volunteer and/or educational performance.
According to Sheldon Drogin, Ed.D., president of LIOS Graduate College: “We believe the health of diverse communities demands leaders capable of adapting to a broad range of approaches and styles. This scholarship will not only enable further education for current and aspiring leaders in multicultural environments, but it will also enrich the cultural awareness of the current LIOS student body.”
