Compassionate Seattle

We are building a searchable resource library showing the impact of compassion on society (and the lack of it), hopefully this will help projects which need evidence to develop/find funding and the show the efficacy of compassion.....

Website here

Good luck and may we all have an enormous positive impact on society...

Thank you for your kind and enthusiastic response....

The organisation is called Awareness in and we deliver public talks and workshops into businesses and organisations. Our approach is to examine and question habitual responses at work and to introduce a means of transforming how we work with our mind by training it to be peaceful, compassionate and clear-seeing.

1. peaceful mind - We train in peaceful mind through becoming familiar with techniques of mindfulness and meditation, which enable us to develop self-awareness, and stability thus calming the mind and making it easier to work with.

2. compassionate mind - We train in compassionate mind through working with a series of techniques to develop empathy, equanimity, kindness and compassion. This leads to an improvement in communication and social skills, and the ability to work well in a team.

3. clear seeing mind - developing the 'right view' of interdependence, ethical work and practical wisdom in terms of developing sustainable choices for themselves and others, enabling us to work with situations as they are, rather than as we wish them to be.

The training is very experiential and all three stages include implications, practical techniques and scientific research where appropriate.

Our founding director, Maureen Cooper, has recently secured a book deal with USA distribution currently titled due April 2011. We have a number of projects including a large leadership project to infrastructure consortium organisations in England - the attendees are CEOs ... we've also completed a workshop for the Red Cross in Spain and some workshops for the Health service here in England.

Hope the response wasn't took long.

Darran - I've just added your resource to the Communications group so we don't lose track of it. I know the following info is probably on the library site, but can you please give us some background info regarding the group that that's providing this resource? Thanks!

Oh my goodness, your resource is solid gold. I'll think about how we can add this prominently to the CAN site in a permanent location, such as in a "Resources" section on the Home Page and on a Resources Tab in the top toolbar. In fact, I'll add a new forum section to the home page to collect ideas for the Resources section! Thanks Darran!

Thank you Darran!
